Advancing impact assessment for Canada's socio-ecological systems

 

Goal

Our goal with the case study project is to learn from past successes and failures in how to build constructive knowledge-sharing relationships among multiple, diverse knowledge-holders by analyzing relationships that emerged in previous and current federal impact assessments.

Our novel approach builds on past wisdom from Impact Assessment theory and practice, and applies an analytical lens that centers justice, intersectionality, and co-production to each of our three case studies. This will require bringing social science and humanities scholarly perspectives to impact assessment in groundbreaking ways.

Three key sectors of natural resources will be our focus: mining in the north; oil sands development; and renewable and non-renewable resource development in Atlantic Canada’s offshore. Details to follow…
